Case Study:
Flocculant Systems for an Existing Iron Ore Mine

Project Overview: 
Transmin has a long-standing relationship with this leading international mining company (‘the client’), having provided them with multiple flocculant mixing and supply systems across Western Australia. This project focused on expanding an existing mine site in the state’s Pilbara region to keep up with supply and demand. It involved the design, manufacture, and supply of two complete flocculant systems, including dry powder storage silos and a pneumatic transfer system, mixing tanks, storage tanks, access stairways and platforms, pumps, interconnecting pipework and a control system to connect to the client’s Plant Control System (PCS). 
The Challenge: 
The project was to be executed during the state’s COVID-19 lockdown restriction period, meaning all of the client’s staff would be transitioning to remote working. Compounding this local challenge was the global impact of the pandemic on the worldwide supply chain and the delivery of equipment from overseas suppliers.  

The Solution: 
We worked closely with the client to keep them updated on the status of their project and ensured any negative impact on deliveries was efficiently managed so as not to disrupt the overall project schedule. We introduced the Teams instant-messaging platform to seamlessly interface the project team, suppliers, and the client, opening up lines of communication despite the remote working conditions.

The Results:
The project was delivered on time and on budget. Our Aftermarket Team successfully supplied and commissioned the equipment needed to achieve the required expansion of the mine site while also providing training to the client’s end-users. We will provide ongoing support to the client through periodic site servicing and the supply of spare parts as needed.
