Scutti

Scutti

Transmin is an Australian distributor of the Scutti range.

Scutti is an leading manufacturer of cement silos and lime silos in the world. Developing silos for more than 50 years, Scutti has been able to perfect its manufacturing process to build silos that would be suited for almost any situation, whether it was cold Arctic conditions, heat of the Pilbara or on fault lines in New Zealand.

Manufactured in Italy, designed to be containerised and shipped anywhere in the world. The Scutti system of bolted silos allows them to be assembled on the ground and then lifted as modules for construction, meaning there is a reduced need to work at heights or use specialised hot equipment, and therefore a benefit of a low processing cost due to a simple process engineering.

Originally built for the cement and lime industries, the silos can store most bulk solids, including, soda ash, sand, crushed glass, sugar or grain. Scutti’s silos have already been put to use in the Australian cement industry for many years. They are used to store and then load trucks with cement, assist with water purification on mining sites and store sugar for refining into confectionary ingredients. Others have been installed at port facilities, using the modularised design of the silos to build square silos that make the most of the space available on the wharves.

Scutti and Transmin also offer additional equipment, such as screw conveyors, dust filters and powder valves along with the silo. In addition, the silos can be equipped with Scutti’s own condition monitoring system, WICOMSILO.

RockLogic RBIS Sensor

Transmin’s RockLogic RBIS* Sensor
NOW AVAILABLE!

Transmin’s award winning Rockbreaker control system is now retrofit friendly. Previously, upgrading your existing Rockbreaker to use RockLogic involved hydraulic cylinder modifications to install the in cylinder transducer which added additional time and cost when retrofitting to existing Rockbreaker’s. With our newly released RBIS (RockLogic Bolt-on Incline Sensor) sensor, all sensors are externally mounted and easy to install and maintain, reducing cost and time and increasing reliability.

Transmin has recently also added a host of new options such as:

  • Live sound feed from the Rockbreaker to the Slimline Controller which improves the efficiency of remote rockbreaking.
  • Safety gate panels that include safety rated gate switch and reset button for added safety during remote operations.
  • Local operator panel, providing local storage of the radio controller along with a place to charge spare batteries.
  • Revised support packages with tailored operator training using Transmin’s own Rockbreaker for the practical component.

Simplified and standardised control panels have also been design to reduce overall system cost and reduced procurement times. This means you can enhance the operation of your existing Rockbreaker for less than you think. By implementing RockLogic, your existing Rockbreaker will be enhanced with the following features:

  • Realtime active 3D collision avoidance (not just simple limits)
  • Automated movements – one touch park and deploy
  • Process integration with the plant
  • Remote operation over any distance using our Slimline Controller
  • Enhanced machine safety using our SafeLogic safety system

Case Study: LPF Reclaim Hopper

Case Study:

Low Profile Feeder™
‘Reclaim Hopper’
for  Iron Ore Tailings

Location: 220km SE of Geraldton, Western Australia

Operation Type:  Iron Ore/Magnetite Mine

Equipment Solution: Low Profile Feeder

Date: 2012

Scope of Project:

Transmin’s client, a global EPC servicing the mining and cement industries, were looking for a cost-effective way to transfer stockpiled iron ore tailings from a series of filter presses to an overland conveyor at a newly established iron ore and magnetite mine in Mid-Western Australia.

The EPC had been hired by the site contractor and operator, to come up with a solution to the problem and decided that the most efficient way to do this was to use a low profile ‘Reclaim Hopper’ that could be fed iron ore tailings using a front end loader.

This would enable significant savings to be made by eliminating the need for multiple conveyors and transfer points, which require a larger capital outlay than a single CAT 992k loader.

The system also needed to be able to transfer 1500 tonnes of iron ore tailings per hour from the reclaim stockpile to the overland conveyor in order to meet the production requirements of the site’s owner.

Transmin’s Solution:

Transmin’s Low Profile Feeder (LPF) Reclaimer Hopper was the perfect choice for their situation because it fills the role of both feeder and conveyor, and allows for receival, storage and feeding to be done with the one machine, saving on additional capital expenditure.

It is also designed to have a bulk-loading hopper fitted to the frame, so it can be fed using front-end-loaders and other bucket machinery, which was one of the project’s primary requirements.

Management at the EPC were also impressed with the various models Transmin had available, and the fact they can be customised with many additional features and options, including a large range of capacities and belt sizes, and the unique ability to change direction from horizontal to inclined using a bend transition without the need for additional machines or transfer points.

The Result:

According to EPC Project Manager, Stuart Taylor, the Low Profile Feeder has consistently outperformed the desired 1500 tonnes/hour output rate, without any problems.

Because the feeder can be supplied with material via a front end loader, costs have been kept to a minimum compared to the additional capital that would have been required if multiple conveyors and take-up/transfer points were needed.

Instead, they are now operating in the most efficient way possible and Transmin’s Low Profile Feeder had been the key to achieving this outcome.

“The client is really impressed with the performance of the reclaim Low Profile Feeder™. In fairness, the machine was used above and beyond its initial design spec and it’s never missed a beat. This thing is bullet proof.”

Stuart Taylor, Project Manager at the client EPC

Case Study: Isolation Gates

Case Study:

Isolate Downstream Equipment from
the Primary Stockpile, with Transmin
Heavy-Duty Isolation Gates.

Location: Brazil

Operation Type:  Iron Ore Mine

Application: Stockpile

Equipment Solution: Transmin Hydraulic Isolation Gates

Date: May 2014

Background:

Transmin has been established in Australia for over 30 years.  In 2014, we partnered with local Brazilian equipment manufacturer firm TMSA – Tecnologia em Movimentação S/A, so as to bring our combined expertise and unique, innovative equipment offerings to the Brazilian mining industry. In May 2014 Transmin / TMSA was proud to announce the sale of our first large-scale capital equipment project in Brazil, to a major iron ore project.

Issue on site:

Transmin’s heavy-duty hydraulic isolation gates were used by our client to isolate downstream equipment from the primary stockpile, where traditionally, rod gates or spile-bars were used.

Each of the four gates isolated an aperture of 8400mm x 2400mm, with four hydraulic cylinders giving an opening or closing time of around five minutes – ensuring nothing gets through. A local operating panel is situated adjacent to each gate but only one hydraulic power pack of 75kW is required for the four machines.

The added investment of the Transmin gates was more than offset by the higher all-round availability of the plant, and the increased safety of plant personnel during inspection and maintenance.

Furthermore, all equipment and componentry was sourced and/or fabricated locally in Brazil, contributing to the local economy.

The overall result: Higher plant availability thanks to a safer, more reliable inspection and maintenance schedule.

Case Study: Improved Stockpile Extraction

Case Study:

Improved Stockpile Extraction, with
Minimal Downtime and Reduced
Capital Works Costs.

Location: Australia

Operation Type:  Open cut gold mine

Application: Stockpile

Equipment Solution: Transmin Low Profile Feeder

Date: Sept 2016

Issue on site:

Under the existing setup, the site was struggling to achieve sufficient extraction from the stockpile. The existing extraction method utilised conventional feeders submerged in conventional pre-cast concrete tunnels. Installing a secondary tunnel with conventional belt or apron feeder extraction and associated chutes onto a collector conveyor belt would prove expensive, not least due to the height requirement (5m plus), and would take the plant out of production for excessively long periods.  One alternative would be to use a front end loader to supplement the extraction, but this too would prove both time and labour intensive.

The Solution:

Transmin’s solution, was to utilise the Low Profile Feeder (LPF) with its low 1<m installed height advantage, and ability to incline within a single machine.  The LPF would be located in an additional precast concrete tunnel submerged under the stockpile, with an extraction slot approximately 7m long.

The LPF would act as both feeder and conveyor – extracting and carrying ore from the stockpile simultaneously on the same machine for approximately 40m towards an inclined section, where it would be deposited directly onto a conventional conveyor.

Thanks to the LPF’s ultra-low profile, the height requirement of the pre-cast tunnel sections could be brought down, and the need for additional chute-work eliminated thanks to the built-in incline section.  The end result would be a substantial reduction in civil-works.

This in turn meant installation could be completed with minimum disruption to stockpile operations. A culvert would be dug-out using excavators and the new pre-cast concrete tunnels dropped into place, allowing the stockpile to be quickly reformed and put back into full service.

Benefits:

The benefits of using the Low Profile Feeder include;

  • Significant improvement to stockpile extraction efficiency
  • Substantially reduced retrofitting costs – both capital equipment and civil-works, due to;
    • Ability to extract, convey and incline within a single machine
    • Eliminating the need for additional chute-work
    • Significantly reduced sub-stockpile construction requirements
  • Minimal disruption to operations – reduced civil-works means installation can be completed during normal operations

The overall result: Higher productivity at a reduced cost.

NT Resources, AIMEX and Exposibram Review

NT Resources, AIMEX and Exposibram Review

August and September is always a busy time of year on the mining expos and events calendar. Fresh from attending NT Resources Week (Darwin), AIMEX (Sydney) and Exposibram (Belo Horizonte, Brazil), here’s our report on the state of the global industry.
ntres-thumb

NT Resources Week – 25-27 August, Darwin Convention Centre.

NT Resources Week encompasses three events; the annual South East Asia and Australia Offshore & Onshore Conference, the Annual Mining the Territory Conference and the annual Building the Territory Conference. It’s therefore a great opportunity to network and gain valuable information across a number of industry sectors – both public and private.

Transmin exhibited on stand 109 this year. Manning the stand we had capital sales engineers Evan Douglas and Mark Cracknell.

Both the mining and oil & gas industries are experiencing an obvious downturn, with mine closures and project delays due to the commodity price slide. On the other hand the NT Govt is very bullish in trying to spur the local economy, including a number of key infrastructure projects. The overall buzz at the conference is that the market is biding time for the commodity price turnaround.

Both exhibitor and attendance numbers were approx. 30% down from the same time last year. Although total numbers were down, Transmin found the quality of visitors to the stand to be up on previous years – with a lot of interest in Transmin innovative equipment aimed at improving operational efficiency on site, such as the Low Profile Feeder, and Rocklogic automation software.

aimex-thumb

Asia-Pacific International Mining Exhibition (AIMEX) – 1-4 September, Sydney Showgrounds.

AIMEX is still the region’s biggest and best mining expo, drawing exhibitors and attendees from all over the Asia Pacific, and further-afield.

Transmin exhibited on stand 2822, inside Hall 3 – the busiest of the halls.

Again, given the current slow-down felt across the industry, numbers were as expected down from previous years, however the overall attendance figures released by the show organisers were still impressive. AIMEX continues to present key opportunities on both purchasing and supply. With cost-cutting pressures being felt across the industry, the time is right for sourcing alternate low-cost suppliers, and there were opportunities on show at AIMEX from all corners of the Asia-Pacific region.

Mining innovation and automation in particular were key features this year, heavily spruiked by the show’s organisers (Reed Exhibitions) as representing the future of the industry.

To this end Transmin was keen to promote its multi-award winning Rocklogic remote-operation platform for rock breakers and pedestal boom systems.

Visitors to the Transmin stand had the chance to remote-operate a Transmin ‘Boomer’ series rockbreaker located at our Perth head office – over 4000km away, over the national mobile data network (as opposed to a private network). Click here to check out the video demonstration.

Even over a public network the Rocklogic demo ran smoothly, and demonstrated just how easy the system is to use – even for untrained operators. The key features of the Rocklogic system (aside from remote operation), include enhanced safety features such as slew-limits and automatic e-stops – preventing harm to surrounding equipment and personnel, and plant integration features that can dramatically improve productivity, whilst reducing down-time. For a detailed demonstration outlining the key benefits of the Rocklogic system, click here to view our YouTube video animation.

For further information on any of the above products and equipment, email sales@transmin.com.au.

exposi-thumb

Exposibram – 14-17 September, Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

Exposibram International Mining Exhibition, and the 16th Brazilian Mining Congress, both took place in Belo Horizonte, Brazil from 14-17 September 2015. This is the largest mining show in Brazil and is the ideal place to meet buyers, potential agents and partners, and get first-hand appreciation of the size of the market and competition.

Not just a regional affair, Exposibram is one of the largest mining expos in the world – in 2013, Exposibram attracted 58,000 visitors and 500 exhibitors from 25 countries, as well as hundreds of delegates to the mining congress.

This year, Transmin exhibited alongside our Brazilian agency, TMSA, on stand M2.

Proving the mining industry is doing the hard yards everywhere at present, attendee and exhibitor numbers were down on 2013. However there was a prevailing optimism in the region thanks to a number of new projects coming on line, most notably Vale’s S11D iron ore mine – set to be the largest in the world.

Transmin has recently commissioned its first large scale capital equipment project in Brazil – a major milestone for the company, and one that we hope will lay the foundation for future success in the region. To that end the Exposibram was a valuable window at which to showcase Transmin’s knowledge and expertise.

This rugged, abrasion-resistant tilt switch is actuated when material rises to tilt the probe 15 degrees or more from its vertical position. These switches are precisely positioned so that, regardless of the direction of tilt, its normally closed contacts will open. Various probe assembles are available to suit applications utilising an array of materials in a wide range of environmental conditions.

Australian Engineering Worldwide

Transmin has recently enjoyed a lot of success in winning a number of overseas projects – further evidence of how highly-regarded innovative, Australian-engineered equipment is overseas.

Low Profile Feeders in Canada;

Transmin has successfully won the supply order for its unique Low Profile Feeder (LPF) as the feeding mechanism for a series of stacker/ reclaimers at a coal terminal in Western Canada. The LPF was chosen over other conventional technologies (belt feeder, apron feeder, vibrating feeder) and is expected to be in service well in-excess of 20 years. Factors that the LPF was able to dominate over the conventional feeder technology included;

  • The lowest profile feeder available on the market, anywhere in the world.
  • Ability to handle arduous impact loading conditions.
  • No product spillage with the use of an industry rated belt cover.
  • No belt tracking issues.
  • Ability to feed in reverse.
  • High tonnage capacity.
  • Use of standard industry components available locally (worldwide).
  • Strong aftersales support, including parts and servicing.

Transmin Capital Sales Engineer, Evan Douglas explains; “This project is a really nice demonstration of firstly the unique qualities of the LPF, and its ability the diversity of application across so many materials and handling requirements. We’re delighted to have won the job with a major North American client, the client is delighted too.”

Transmin ball charging system for Central American Project;

Transmin has been successful in securing an order from another Canadian based consultant to supply a ball charging system for a project in Central America. The Transmin ball charging system beat off stiff competition with its unique, reliable, proven design now well accepted throughout the mining industry.

Transmin supplies cement silo and feeding system for Africa;

Transmin has won an order to supply a twin 400 ton cement silo and associated feeding system for a gold mine in Burkina Faso. The system is based on Transmin’s standard design used by the mining community for in excess of 25 years. Yoshikawa Circle Feeders

YOSHIKAWA CIRCLE FEEDERS

Transmin is an authorised Australian distributor of the
Yoshikawa range of circle feeders

Yoshikawa Corporation was established in 1954 in Sendai City, Kagoshima, Japan. Today the company has grown to become the world-wide leader in circle feeder technology.

Circle feeders are a highly innovative and effective alternative to traditional belt and screw feeders. Thanks to their circular motion, they guarantee consistent draw-down of materials – ensuring ‘first-in, first-out’, whilst removing the risk of material ‘bridging’ and ‘sludging’. They also allow the potential for multiple material inlet/outlet points.

The result for many clients is a more efficient, more flexible handling operation that experiences reduced material wastage and spoiling, a more reliable flow, and improved space-saving efficiencies. All of which can have a positive impact on the bottom-line.

Yoshikawa Corporation manufactures circle feeders for virtually any commodity or material – from coal, to powdered chemicals, from food, to feathers. Each feeder is engineered to the specific attributes of the material being handled, with feeder diameters ranging from 30cm through to 4m.

Transmin Boomer Range

Relaunching an Australian icon: Transmin’s new Boomer Range

Small to heavy-duty hydraulic pedestal mounted boom systems to suit a wide range of industry applications.

Transmin is proud to announce the upcoming launch of our new, extended hydraulic boom range, aptly named, Boomer.

The Boomer range includes Transmin’s existing heavy duty hydraulic boom systems (Boomer HD), and a suite of new, smaller booms engineered for light to heavy industry, including construction, quarrying and waste management.

Transmin General Manager Rob Rhodes; “We’ve extended our hydraulic boom range quite substantially. In the process we decided on the need for a distinctive new brand name – one that would tie the whole range together, and of course help distinguish Transmin booms from the competition.”

“Transmin is a proudly Australian-owned company. Australian companies, particularly in mining, are well regarded overseas so we ideally wanted a name that could get that Australian image across and link back to the product. For those not familiar, ‘boomer’ is a term used to describe a large, male kangaroo – what could be more Australian! So, the kangaroo goes in the logo naturally.”

The New Transmin Boomer Range

The Transmin Boomer range now comprises 50 distinctive hydraulic boom models – ranging from the compact B16/12, designed for small manufacturing and materials handling operations, through to the 200 Series Boomer HD – suitable for large scale mining and mineral-processing plants.

Boomer HD (Heavy Duty) is the new name for Transmin’s existing range of hydraulic boom systems that have been widely adopted throughout the global mining industry during the past 28 years.

The HD range really is heavy duty. Unlike the rest of the Boomer range, the HD models (100-200 series) are designed to handle the largest hammers and attachments, and can also be used to rake and nudge heavy materials. The Boomer HD range also allows greater customisation, with ‘standard models’ engineered to site requirements.

“Over the years Transmin has often designed our rockbreaker booms on a custom basis for mining clients, and that’s certainly a service we’ll continue to provide with the Boomer HD range.” Transmin General Sales Manager, Phil Gilbert.

“The new smaller range however opens up a host new markets for Transmin in terms of hydraulic boom systems in small to large industrial applications such as; quarrying, construction, demolition, forestry, shipping, oil and gas, utilities, ports and shipping.”

The launch of the new Boomer range will also see the adoption of a new business model for Transmin in regards to sales and service, explains GM Rob Rhodes; “By bringing in this new range we’re also allowing Transmin to focus more on its OEM status, by appointing a series of authorised Boomer sales and service agents in key regional areas.”

Transmin’s sister company Breakers & Attachments Group (BAEG) will be the first of such agencies/distributors, representing the Transmin Boomer range in Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia and PNG.

BAEG Managing Director Campbell Nunn explains; “What we’re aiming to provide both Transmin and BAEG clients is a more holistic, more streamlined way of dealing with us. BAEG is already Transmin’s exclusive supplier of breakers and attachments. With the new Boomer range, we now supply and service the hydraulic boom systems to go with those attachments.”

Transmin General Manager Rob Rhodes; “We’ve already seen a lot of interest for the new booms in this region. As Transmin begins marketing the Boomer range internationally we hope to appoint other authorised sales and service agents in other parts of the world. So it’s about tapping into new markets by way of appointing established local providers as well.”

Transmin Switches to Atlas Copco Hammers for their Rockbreaker Range

Transmin Switches to Atlas Copco Hammers for their Rockbreaker Range

Bulk materials handling specialist Transmin has switched from Rammer, to Atlas Copco for the supply of all industrial hammers used in their Rockbreaker range. Transmin sources all hammers via sister company; Breakers & Attachments Equipment Group (BA Equipment).

BA Equipment Managing Director Campbell Nunn explains; “The switch to Atlas Copco from Rammer reflects the technical advantages of the new Atlas range over its rivals, as well as the incredible scope of supply and support delivered by Atlas Copco.”

Atlas Copco is now the world’s largest supplier of industrial breakers and attachments. The current MB (medium) and HB (heavy) range of hydraulic breakers were introduced in early 2013 and boast a number of key improvements, most notably a significant improvement in power to weight ratio, marketed as ‘less weight, more power’. The reduced weight therefore requires less input power, resulting in lower operating costs over the lifetime of the equipment.

Transmin are a leading manufacturer of rockbreakers and hydraulic boom systems used in mining operations the world over to break down oversize rocks as they pass through the materials handling process.

In 2008 Transmin manufactured the then largest rockbreaker / hydraulic boom system in the southern hemisphere for Rio Tinto’s Mount Tom Price Mine in northern Western Australia. Nick-named ‘Big Bertha’, the machine has a 10m boom and 7m jib.
