Key Features

Transmin is Australia's largest and most experienced provider of complete systems for the receival, storage, dosing and mixing of lime products for use in mining, minerals processing, acid neutralisation and waste water treatment across industry.

Since inception in 1987, Transmin has developed a range of solutions which maximise efficiency and usage for the client.

  • Completely enclosed systems eliminate the hazard of airborne lime dusts.
  • The enclosed nature of Transmin designs also reduces the ingress of moisture.
  • Storage silos are designed for optimum capacity, standard sizes are available.
  • Silos include efficient dust vent filters, level controls and protection devices against over pressurisation.
  • Silo discharge devices provide reliable, accurate feeding of lime.
  • In cases where the lime is mixed with water the Transmin Vortex Mixer eliminates traditional dusting and caking problems.
  • Agitated storage tanks ensure the 'milk of lime' solution is maintained in an optimum state for efficient usage.
  • In slaking applications, where steam is produced, Transmin lime systems include features to ensure the steam does not cause problems with caking and build up within the lime system.
  • A full turnkey service is available from Transmin for lime systems, we can undertake the complete project including installation and electrical controls if required.

In Brief

Processes requiring waste treatment or acid neutralisation will use one of three lime products:
  • Calcium Oxide (CaO) commonly called Quicklime – The most reactive form of lime produced by the calcination of calcium carbonates and is available in various forms including lump or pebble lime and various quicklime powders and granules.  It has a very high affinity for water, with which it reacts strongly producing heat.  For this reason quicklime dusts are hazardous to personnel.  It is used either as a dry powder added to process or slaked (mixed with controlled amounts of water) on site to produce a lime solution.  In dry form its bulk density varies in the range 800-1000kg/m3.  Suppliers generally deliver the material to site in pressurised bulk road tankers, ISO sea containers or 1t bulk bags depending upon usage.
  • Calcium Hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) commonly called Hydrated Lime – Hydrated lime is a dry fine powder produced by mixing quicklime with controlled amounts of water under controlled conditions sufficient to satisfy its affinity for water.  During the hydration process significant heat and steam are generated and the resultant dry Hydrate powder generally doubles in volume over the original Quicklime.  The bulk density of Hydrated Lime is in the range 400-550kg/m3.  Hydrated lime is usually delivered in pressurised road tankers. Hydrated lime is more expensive than quicklime.
  • Various Limestones (CaCO3) or Calcium Carbonates – Sometimes used in lump or ground form, are the cheapest sources but have less available lime and can have more impurities present.

  • Transmin lime plants for dry Quicklime addition – Complete systems are available comprising silo filling lines, silos, silo discharge and metering equipment to accurately dose dry quicklime powder directly into process e.g. onto an ore stream on a mill feed conveyor in gold mining applications.

  • Transmin lime plants for Quicklime Slaking – Transmin slaking systems are some of the most efficient on the market.  Our roller mounted ball mill slakers are added to a basic silo system to grind the quicklime in the presence of water to produce a milk of lime solution for use in the process.  For information regarding Transmin roller mounted ball mills, please go back to the 'complete products page' and select roller mounted ball mills.  For smaller applications, detention type slakers can be incorporated to achieve cost effective systems.

  • Transmin systems for Hydrated Lime - The most common method is to store the hydrated lime in a silo and dose it to a tank where it is mixed with water to produce a 'milk of lime' (MOL) solution.  Through over 21 years of experience Transmin has developed a very efficient method of producing MOL which controls dust and ensures full mixing without caking or build up of lime in the feed system.  Contact us today for the right solution for your lime preparation plants.
